About the design
A wearable sallet rebuilt from the scan of a South German helmet of about 1470 to 1490 in the Museum of Kraków: a skull raised to a keel and drawn out behind into a long tail, and a visor with an eye slit that turns up on two screws. It is scaled from your head's circumference so your eyes meet the slit, with room for foam pads, and twisted lining rivets run round its sides. The skull prints standing on its rims, the tail slides over a sleeve on the skull like a lame, and the visor lifts 70 deg on flat seats without touching the skull. Tree supports from the plate hold up only the insides, and a thin ring cut from the skull's widest part prints in minutes so you can check the fit first.

The form is the "Salada type helmet" in the Museum of Kraków (MHK 736/V), scanned and published by Wirtualne Muzea Małopolski (https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/salada-type-helmet-c1d459a7014442889b1729460b0e4228) under CC0 1.0. I made it symmetric, smoothed it, replaced its rivets, scaled it to the head, gave it an even shell and cut it to print.
